Get a Year of Stories

Philip HarrisFree Fiction, Stories0 Comments

For the last few months, I’ve been giving everyone who subscribes to my mailing list, four free ebooks – Bottled Lightning, Saviour, Curfew and Only Friends. The stories are a starter library of sorts and serve as a good introduction to my writing. This year, I wanted to go a bit further so I’m launching A Year of Stories. Every month I’m going to send my newsletter subscribers a short story. It might be something completely new, it might be an older story that’s not available any more or it might be something a little bit “different”. There’ll be a range of genres as well – I write anything from science fiction to urban fantasy to Lovecraftian horror and the monthly stories will span the whole range. The stories will go out at the end of every month and the first will be arriving in inboxes this weekend. Of course, everyone who subscribes will still get the four ebooks. All you have to do to sign up is CLICK HERE and enter your email address in the box. Easy. [Get a Year of Stories by Philip Harris first appeared on Solitary Mindset on 26th January 2016]

Out Now – Only Friends

Philip HarrisAnthologies, Out Now, Stories0 Comments

I’m very pleased to announce that I’m appearing alongside a whole host of fantastic writers in the latest Anthology of European SF.   This one was a bit of a surprise. The anthology was released as part of EuroCon 2013 in Kiev and I wasn’t sure whether my story, Only Friends, would be included until a couple of days before the anthology was released. There’s lots of great authors in the collection – here’s the full table of contents: “The Dead Orchards” by Ian R. MacLeod (England) “Transcendent Express” by Jetse de Vries (Netherlands) “Memory Recall” by Regina Catarina (Portugal) “Digits are Cold, Numbers are Warm” by Liviu Radu (Romania) “Repeat Performances” by Car Rafala (Italy) “Bing Bing Larissa” by Cristian Mihail Teodorescu (Romania) “Rebellion” by Diana Pinguicha (Portugal) “The Server and the Dragon” by Hannu Rajaniemi (Finland) “The Royal Library” by Vladimir Arenev (Ukraine) “Only Friends” by Philip Harris (England) “Starsong” by Aliette de Bodard (France) “News from a Dwarf Universe” by Danut Ungureanu (Romania) You can download the anthology for free from here but only until May 10th. I’m not sure if it will be available after that time so if you want some great fiction from some great authors (and me), … Read More

Whatever Happened To…

Philip HarrisChatter, Photos, The Ghost Smuggler, Writing0 Comments

Apparently this is my one hundredth post – in just under eleven months. Well I never. You may be wondering what happened to my rewrite of The Ghost Smuggler. Well…it kind of <cough> stalled. It turns out that training for a marathon takes up a lot of time and what free time remains is spent wondering how much longer before it’s okay to go to bed. You’d have thought I’d learned my lesson the first time but apparently not. We also had my parents over for a couple of weeks at the beginning of September which was fun but not conducive to the crafting of fiction. So, The Ghost Smuggler has been languishing on my hard drive. I have been thinking about it, so it’s not all bad. I did submit a story (Only Friends) last night and was rewarded with what has to be the fastest response I’ve ever had – six hours according to GMail. It was a rejection unfortunately, but still, that’s pretty impressive. Now I have to resist the urge to bombard the editor with every other story I’ve got in a desperate attempt to find one they like. That would be rude. I have a day off today … Read More
