Cube

It was Canadian Film Day last Wednesday and thanks to the Vancouver Horror Show, I got to watch the 1997 horror classic, Cube, on the big screen for the first time.

Cube still holds up now, 29 years after it was released and it was great seeing it again. It’s been 20-odd years since I last watched it, so, I’d forgotten pretty much everything about it and I found myself getting very tense towards the end.

As a special bonus, the Vancouver Horror Show crew also arranged for the film’s director, Vincenzo Natali, and one of the writers, Graeme Manson, to be there. They kicked the evening off with a Q&A talking about the origins of the film and the challenges of getting the doors to work. The doors are very important in Cube.

It was a great evening, and if you’re in the Vancouver, Canada area, I strongly encourage you to sign up for the Vancouver Horror Show mailing list. Their main focus is the film festival they put on in October, but they have the occasional event during the year including cool things like this.
